Top 20+1 x6 = 3D

I have released my latest music in the form of a 7 track EP called EP 01 of 05:Physics

As there are really no rules any more, and I’ve just been making it all up as I go along… I decided to release songs from the EP on an almost weekly schedule up until the full EP release on Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

A few of the presenters from Three D Radio, notably Clint (This is Our Sound) and Stu (Four Larks and a Wren) who have been playing music from my previous releases for the last year or so, starting playing my new songs on their shows each week… this escalated to the point that 6 weeks ago, the song ‘Electromagnetic Resonance’ made it onto the Three D Radio Top 20+1, the most played new releases on the station for the week, at number 7.

I was shocked as I don’t have much confidence and my music is all improvised, instrumental, experimental and mostly produced on an ipad… It was a nice feeling to be included amongst such amazing other artists and bands. Especially as a lot of the other artists have a strong presence on the live scene in Adelaide. I don’t get out much and while I’ve been trying to develop a sound that’s more ‘live’ and organic, I don’t even play the songs to anyone before I upload them. I really need to find other creatives to collaborate with… *sigh*

You can imagine my surprise when I tuned in to the Top20+1 program on Saturday night the following week and heard my song ‘Golden Age of Physics’ come in at number 9 – two weeks in a row on the Three D charts! I know it’s only local Adelaide, community radio but I’ve always had a soft spot for the station and again, to be included with such other amazing artists was a much needed lift in my confidence as a self-taught musician.

The following week, the song ‘Golden Age of Physics’ was still on the chart and had crept up to number 7. Wow – mind blown! And again, the fourth week it came in at number 14… it was around this time that I released the EP in full.

On the fifth week they listed the EP at number 12 and more Three D shows were playing the songs from the EP. Over the weeks the presenters said some very positive things about the songs and made me smile.

This last week, the sixth week since first appearing on the Top 20+1 charts from out of nowhere, EP 01 of 05: Physics came in at number 5. I’m just glad to get played on local radio… the fact that the presenters have been so supportive and keep playing my music has been incredibly helpful, as the same period of time has been incredibly stressful for reasons I won’t go into now… but I really appreciate that people are enjoying the music. It hasn’t translated into album sales or a rush of new fans, but it helps build my confidence.

Thank you Three D Radio and to all the wonderful presenters. I’ll tune in again this week to the Top 20+1 on Saturday night, but understand that you will have to take my EP off high rotation at some point, but don’t worry… EP 02 of 05: Earth isn’t far away.
